Josh Decker

Josh Decker was most recently a freelance trumpet player and educator based in Columbus, Ohio. During the 2021/2022 school year, Josh was Adjunct Professor of Trumpet at his undergraduate alma mater, Ohio Wesleyan University. In addition to his appointment at OWU, Josh taught weekly private lessons to as many as 40 students weekly. In July of 2022, Josh taught trumpet at the International Music Camp in Manitoba, Canada.

Josh plays second trumpet in Utopia Brass Quintet, a hometown ensemble composed of some of Columbus’ best freelance players and college professors. In addition, Josh has had a decade-long relationship with the Newark-Granville Symphony, where he plays second trumpet.

What Josh loves most about the trumpet, is the versatility that it allows. Josh has performed in Mariachi groups, theme park bands, has done numerous musical theater residencies and even performs in funk groups. In 2016 Josh co-founded the brass funk group Employees of Funk, a group that he performed, arranged and composed for while being a member.
