Sonya holds an M.M. in Piano Performance/Pedagogy from UW-Madison, and received her B.A. in Piano Performance, Cum Laude, from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. She has 15 years experience as a private teacher, chamber musician, soloist, and accompanist, and performs in a wide range of venues. She regularly accompanies choirs, ballet, instrumentalists, and even improvised musical comedies. In addition to her work at Parlando, she also teaches collegiately at Front Range Community College.

Sonya enjoys teaching immensely, and is always excited to meet new students. It is a rewarding experience for her to help others grow through music. She feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to study with a wide variety of teachers, as it has exposed her to many different teaching styles and techniques which she can pass along to her own students. Each student receives individualized instruction that caters to their strengths, weaknesses and learning style, and they’re always pushed to accomplish their best. Students learn music literacy and reading while honing their creative and improvisatory skills.

Sonya is a strong advocate of teamwork, and strives to work closely with both student and parent. Above all, her studio is geared toward having fun with music and using it to develop other life skills, such as creative problem solving, confidence, coordination, and communication.
