Oboe Camp

Join us for a week of oboe fun!
This camp is designed to help students of all abilities grow in areas of knowledge about the oboe and musicianship outside of what is covered in a private lesson setting. Activities include but are not limited to:

Reed making: Everyone will learn how to make their own oboe reed from the tying step through scraping the reed in. We will also discuss assessing the quality of a reed, and how to make adjustments to reeds that have been played on. This learning experience will be beneficial both for new reed makers and those with reed making experience.

Topic Discussions: We will spend time talking in depth about instrument maintenance, oboe history, auxiliary instruments, and more!

Chamber Music Ensembles: Students will be split up into small ensembles based on age and ability level. Music for these ensembles will be distributed at least 2 weeks before camp starts, and the ensembles will perform at the End-of-Week Performance.

Performance Classes: Students will have the opportunity to perform etudes or solo repertoire that they have been working on for the group and will receive feedback. Students not performing will audit and have the opportunity to learn by listening!

At this camp you will:
-Expand your knowledge of the oboe through a variety of classes and activities.
-Gain a better understanding of reed making by either learning new skills or refining developing skills.
-Meet and play with other oboe players in the area.

Upon registration you will receive a brief form via email to fill out and be asked to submit a video so that we can place you into your chamber music group for camp.

The requirements for this video are the following:
-1 major scale (whatever range the student is comfortable playing)
-Chromatic scale (whatever range the student is comfortable playing)
-An excerpt of an etude or solo (16 measures minimum)

If you do not have your own reed making equipment, cane and staples, please select the option that includes the materials fee. Each student will leave camp with 3 of their own reeds!
