Katie Riederer
Katie Riederer (she/her) is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Voice Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Colorado Boulder under the tutelage of Dr. Nicholas Perna. In addition, she works as a teacher and graduate assistant through the College of Music and Eklund Opera.
A native of Buffalo, New York, Katie taught for several years as a middle school vocal teacher and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her teaching. She taught general music, adaptive music, and chorus, directed an honors ensemble, and served as the musical director for her school’s musical. Additionally, Katie spent her summers as an assistant director and social media coordinator for a local theater camp. During her undergraduate studies, she maintained a regular teaching schedule at a music academy in Cincinnati. Katie also spent two years as an intern with the Cincinnati Youth Choir, assisting with the Con Brio ensemble.
In addition to being an accomplished teacher, Katie regularly performs with professional opera, choral, and chamber ensembles. Her previous roles include Miss Evans (The Transformation of Miss Emily Evans), Musetta (scenes from La Bohème), Norina (scenes from Don Pasquale), Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro), Diana (Orpheus in the Underworld), and Erste Dame (Die Zauberflöte). She will be seen as Susanna in CU Boulder’s upcoming production of Le nozze di Figaro. Katie has also held positions with the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus as a Staff Singer and with Buffalo Opera Unlimited. Her choral experience extends to baroque to classical to contemporary collaborations with ensembles such as INCIPIO Singers, Harmonia Chamber Singers, and Coro Volante. Besides her collegiate experience, Katie has also attended young artist programs located in the US and Europe, such as Classic Lyric Arts and Berlin Opera Academy.
Katie’s teaching philosophy is founded on providing students with musical experiences, all while exposing them to real-life skills and situations. Additionally, she focuses on meeting students where they are in terms of technique, ability, and overall musical knowledge. She creates a safe, welcoming environment, but also challenges her students to expand their horizons and go above and beyond in each lesson.
Katie received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music in Voice performance and Music education, where she studied with Amy Johnson. Other teachers include Daniel Ihasz and Joshua Conyers.
