Alysse Deffes
Alysse grew up as a young aspiring female classical guitarist in New Orleans, Louisiana, it shaped her and pushed her as a musician. Growing up in New Orleans, she was immersed in an environment surrounded by live music and performances which made her very accustomed to the lifestyle and stage presence of being a musician.
Alysse started playing guitar when she was around eight years old, starting off playing pop guitar and eventually playing classical guitar allowing her, four years later, to be accepted into a preparatory program at the New Orleans Center for Creative Art. After completing the program she went on to study classical guitar at the arts conservatory for her full four years of high school. During her time at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, Alysse studied under Dr.Jay Kacherski. She also participated in many festivals and concerts such as the Houston Classical Guitar Festival where in 2021 she placed third in the high school division and in 2022 she placed second in the college division 2. In May 2022, Alysse was awarded the Moses Hogan award for Outstanding Graduate in Classical Instrumental.
In 2022 Alysse was accepted into CU Boulder’s College of Music where she is currently obtaining her Bachelor of Music Performance in classical guitar and studying under Dr. Nicolò Spera. In the summer of 2024 Alysse completed CIEE’s Contemporary Music Creation + Critique summer abroad program in Paris, France. The following year, in the summer of 2025, Alysse participated in Early Music studies and performances at the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute in Toronto, Canada. In 2025 Alysse also was awarded CU’s Undergraduate Development Award. Alysse has been in many diverse ensembles and practices early plucked instruments, along with playing acoustic, classical, and electric styles of guitar. She is currently completing her bachelor’s degree and hopes to graduate in the spring of 2026.
