Crystal Chiu earned her Bachelor’s of Music from Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland, where she studied with Violaine Melancon of the Peabody Trio. She then went on to receive her Master’s of Music from CU Boulder, where she studied with Jennifer John and Oswald Lehnert. During her time at CU Boulder, Crystal held a quartet assistantship and worked extensively with the Takacs Quartet. Responsibilities included performing regularly for functions on and off campus.

In addition to her teaching at Parlando, Crystal also helps with rehearsals at Fairview High School, is in a band called Meadows and Fields, and has attended Rocky Grass. She is also a music volunteer at Boulder Community Health.

Crystal has experience in a variety of genres, including classical music, chamber music, Irish fiddle music, and bluegrass. She has attended summer music festivals like NOI (National Orchestral Institute), Yellow Barn, Aspen Music Festival, and has taken courses in music theory, solfege, piano playing, jazz improv, and orchestra audition preparation. She has also helped several students audition and get into local youth orchestras.

Crystal believes that teaching is a multi-faceted endeavor. As a teacher she seeks to use music to teach life skills like practice, consistency, and fun! Crystal believes that music serves as a means of connecting and interacting - and attempts to do this with each and every student.

When she’s not busy teaching, Crystal enjoys hanging out with her kids, spending time with friends, working out, or learning a new fiddle tune!
