Max Davies
With over thirty years of experience, Max Davies is known for his diverse musical work on guitar, as both a songwriter and producer. His work has been featured in Artforum, Guitar World, Total Guitar and Guitarist magazines, at the Pompidou Centre in Paris, The Poetry Project in NYC, the American College Dance Festival, Naropa University, the University of Colorado, NTS, E-Town radio broadcasts, the Everest Awakening benefit album (2015) as well as in several films including the award winning Reel Rock 9, Valley Uprising. His album of prepared guitar instrumentals, Inventions For Broken & Prepared Guitar, was lauded by guitarist John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers as a collection of “really good ideas”.
He has worked with a wide array of musicians including Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, Lydia Lunch, Grammy nominee Gregory Alan Isakov, James Brandon Lewis, Devin Brajha Waldman, Ambrose Bye, as well as poets Janice Lowe, Anne Waldman, Cecilia Vicuna, Eleni Sikelianos, and the late Thomas Sayers Ellis and many others. He has been performing live since the early 90’s in various bands and as a solo artist. He works frequently with his partner Toni Oswald creating a variety of eclectic projects and performances. His latest instrumental solo release using only guitars is entitled Bending the Light (2025).
