Peter Kennedy
Boulder native Peter Kennedy has been playing violin since he was five years old. He earned his B.A. in Music and Mathematics from Lehigh University, graduating with Highest Honors. While at Lehigh, he studied violin performance with Michael Jorgensen and composition with Paul Salerni, and he took masterclasses with Charlie Castleman and the Attacca Quartet.
Peter teaches violin and viola lessons to people of all ages. He believes that every student has meaningful goals in their musical journey, and he works with each individual to discover what drives their passion for music. Outside his studio, Peter serves school orchestras in the Denver-Boulder area by providing one-on-one and small-group instruction, synthesizing private teaching and group work to enrich students’ experience.
He performs regularly as a violinist of the Longmont Symphony Orchestra and a violist of the Flatirons Community Orchestra (FCO). He has performed with the Boulder Symphony and Arapahoe Philharmonic, and has acted as Principal Viola for FCO.
In addition to performing and teaching, Peter loves writing music. He composes classically for strings, voice, and piano, and has been commissioned by Parlando School of Musical Arts for the Commissioned Composers Project. His work has also been performed by accomplished baritone Kyle Pfortmiller. He relishes finding meaning in the small moments of music.
When he isn’t making music, Peter can be found running, hiking, skiing, biking, unicycling, reading, thinking about math, or playing dungeons and dragons.
