Randel Leung
Dr. Randel Leung is an active performer, educator, and arts administrator in the Colorado area. Originally from Hong Kong SAR, Leung earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Clarinet Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado Boulder, under the tutelage of Daniel Silver. He also received degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Before pursuing his degrees in music, he completed a degree in Marine Studies. Leung’s recent honors include first prize and the Audience Favorite award in the Bruce Ekstrand Solo Competition and first prize in the International Clarinet Association Orchestral Audition Competition.
Leung teaches clarinet, saxophone, and piano. In 2018-2020, he was part of the Teaching Artist residency program at the Aspen Music Festival and School. He was also the woodwind mentor and one of the chamber music coaches at the Greater Boulder Youth Orchestra. He has been teaching for more than ten years and taught a wide range of students from 5 to 60 years old.
Leung performs regularly with the Colorado Symphony, Boulder Philharmonic, and Cheyenne Symphony. He has also performed with the Central City Opera, New Mexico Philharmonic Orchestra, Fort Collins Symphony, Longmont Symphony, Macau Orchestra, City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, as well as the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players. Additionally, he has toured and performed throughout Asia and the United States. In past summers, Leung was awarded fellowships to study and perform at prestigious music festivals, including the Aspen Music Festival, Chautauqua Institution of Arts N.Y., Brevard Music Center, Taipei Music Academy and Festival, and Festival Napa Valley.
Aside from his musical journey, Leung loves traveling - camping in the mountains during the summer and skiing during the winter season. In addition, he has visited more than 30 National Parks around the country. As a dog lover, people often call him a “dog whisperer”.
