Come celebrate our first event of the season with us as we celebrate never-before-seen musicals! Tickets to this event include the New Musical Project Festival, Composer Symposium, and concert. During this two weekend long event we will highlight the works of new composers, unearthing these works and bringing premieres of these musicals to the stage.

Written and composed by our very own Elle Tyler, this musical presents the tantalizing story of a mystical island.

Everything on the island of Jessa seems perfect. Everyone has exactly what they need, living in harmony with the earth and each other…or so it seems. Under the surface of perfection, Jessa is beginning to decay. The sea is growing cloudy, and the stars are starting to dim. The only hope for help lies through a mysterious Door of which few know and no one is able to open. No one, that is, except the two beings on Jessa who have magical powers. One, a young dreamer who longs for adventure; the other, the island’s aged outcast, banished to the edge of the world for a crime few remember. The two form an unlikely pairing as they seek to save—or destroy—Jessa forever.

Join pianist Nnenna Ogwo for a masterclass and celebration performance of music by contemporary and diverse artists. Nnenna will share the stage with Parlando student performer. Nnenna Ogwo is coming as part of our Visiting Artist Series.

Nnenna is a classically trained pianist and teaching artist dedicated to engaging listeners with her lush, richly layered performances. Her unwavering commitment to programming the music of under-represented composers is rooted in the belief that we can’t be what we can’t see or hear. This commitment is reflected in her various projects and collaborations with other musicians of color in presenting music of the African Diaspora and beyond.

Our annual project in which we pair composers with out very own students culminates in a wickedly fun performance in which Parlando students of all ages and instruments debut original works created for (& with!) them by professional, still-living composers.
