Britta De Groot
Praised for bringing high energy and enthusiasm to her performances as a classical piano soloist and collaborator, young and rising American pianist, Britta De Groot, is a passionate pianist and educator. A native of Montana, De Groot holds a Bachelor of Music from Hillsdale College in Michigan and a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Colorado Boulder, where she studied under renowned pianist and pedagogue Dr. David Korevaar. Her earlier training includes formative study with Charlene Loge, during which she began competing in 2009 and went on to win the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) state competition in 2016, representing Montana at the divisional level in Washington that same year. Throughout her development, she received additional mentorship from distinguished instructors including Dr. Christopher Hahn (University of Montana), Prof. Steven Hesla (University of Montana), and Prof. Julie Goswiller (Montana State University), among many other master teachers in the region.
During her collegiate studies, De Groot worked closely with Dr. Christopher Hahn at the University of Montana before completing her undergraduate degree under the guidance of Dr. Katherine Rick. She has performed in master classes for celebrated artists such as Anderson & Roe, Duo Turgeon, Bernadene Blaha, and Jon Kimura Parker, and has received additional coachings from Claire Huangci and William Westney.
De Groot is a two-time finalist in the Montana Association of Symphony Orchestras Young Artist Competition and was a 2020 winner of the Hillsdale College Concerto/Aria Competition, leading to her orchestral debut with the Hillsdale College Orchestra. An active collaborator, she currently performs in the Duo Govorov & De Groot with saxophonist Sergei Govorov, with whom she has toured throughout the United States.
